Default Please be recommending some music.

Any recommendations of indie-ish rock, or softer alternative or folky stuff? I am completely bored with my usual Death Cab For Cutie/Decemberists/Bright Eyes/The Postal Service/Placebo/Brand New/The Weepies when it comes to that area of music since I've listened to it half to death, and I need new recommendations before I drool on my iTouch from boredom. =O

    Some rock personalities I like:

Presidents of the United States of America
    Jack Johnson
    Mobile

I can't think right now! >: ( I'd have to check my iPod for you, and it's at home.

I don't like any of the hard death metaly stuff, so don't worry about that.

Heavens. It's a side project by Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and Josiah Steinbrick.

You can can check one of their songs on this video here:

Epitaph Records: Video Player - Heavens - Patent Pending
You hold my heart in your manly hands I wanna feel the throb of your handsome gland. I wanna hold you tight like a newborn kitten, against my flesh like a cashmere mitten. Tickly tick, I'm makin' skin bump heaven and all the way down it's lookin' cleanly shaven. Prickety pricks, it's stubble on stubble I better slow down or I'm in real trouble. Want you, touch you, feel you, taste you! Knick knack whacky whack 'till I see the man stew. spin you around let me see that hole! I'm a tunnelin' in a like a short hair mole. Once I'm inside I'm gonna leave a trace, half in there and half on that face! One finger, two finger, there fingers gone! Mano a mano I love you John!

Fawgot to add Iron & Wine to my list. xD Love them, but listened to them to death. Ditto to Kimya Dawson.

I like Cat Powers, but I only listened to one song by her, so I guess I should try more!

    Thanks guys.

    Jonathan Coulton.

Not really in the same category as everything posted, but he's a hell of a musician and you might like him.

Be sure to check out the Arcade Fire - Funeral. It has an amazing folk/raw feel to it. This has been my favourite indie-ish album for the last couple of years.

Other than that, if you're in a summerish mood, you should give Animal Liberation Orchestra a try. They have a somewhat similar sound as Jack Johnson, but it's a bit more energetic.

I also second the Shins and Belle and Sebastian.

    Seconded.

Also, you all suck for neglecting to mention Elliot Smith. Check him out first, I recommend his album XO for a good intro. Also, Damien Rice.

YouTube - Birdhouse in your soul, Because They Might Be Giants are awesome. Get their other songs too if you can.

Also, Kamelot is one of my favorite bands. They are power metal, but their are a few softer songs they do you might like, such as YouTube - Love you to death - Kamelot.

    That's a marvellous album, seconded.

Also, if you like lyrics that are a bit... out of the ordinary, I guess you might say, then Neutral Milk Hotel is definitely worth checking out, particularly the album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Weird <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> but really great. And before I forget I'll also mention of Montreal, Broken Social Scene and Architecture in Helsinki.

any time I need new music, I just tell itunes to play songs with very few plays; odds are it's stu's music that I haven't listened to yet.

I was listening to the Beta Band yesterday like this and was really enjoying it.

hm, The Shins, Iron and Wine, Jupiter Sunrise, Mew, Maroon 5, Joel Plaskett, Violent Femmes, Jack Johnson, The Acorn, Basia Bulat, Velvet Underground, Eisley

Second on The Shins. If you don't have their stuff, get it now, they're such a fantastic band. Here's a big list of indie/alternative bands that I think are really good, in a rough order of how much I recommend them.

    Well-known
    Neutral Milk Hotel
    Vampire Weekend
    Guster
    The Strokes
The Raconteurs (especially Consolers of the Lonely)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (especially Show Your Bones)
    Rogue Wave
    The National

    More Obscure
    Electric President
    Ra Ra Riot
    Inkwell
    Editors
    The Autumn Defense
    Cold War Kids
    Voxtrot
    The Grand Archives
    The Muttering Retreats
    Sun Kil Moon
    My Morning Jacket
    Hellogoodbye
    Menomena
    The Last Shadow Puppets
    The Life and Times

Most of those are indie bands, and quite a few are very indie and only have one album out. And a lot of them won't be easy/possible to find on a public torrent tracker. Each and every one is at least worth looking up on Last.fm, though.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Vampire Weekend.
