Have you tried The Good Life? I really like their Lovers Need Lawyers EP. Hmmm, I also am in love with Angela Aki. Her first English album is indie and from the looks of it you might just like it. The album's name is These Words.

I will, however, say that more people need to listen to Neutral Milk Hotel, Russian Circles, Dinosaur Jr., Cat Power, and Devendra Banhart (even though the man himself is a smurfing douche) just on the principal of them all being very good bands.

Neutral Milk Hotel = Good
Dinosaur Jr. = Better
Devendra Banhart = Best and not a douche at all kthx.
