Vista Balloon tips

A few days ago they started not going away after a few seconds. They just stay there until I close them manually. I'm not looking to disable them because I like them, just have them go away automatically like they used to.

I've already checked the control panel where you change their duration and it says 7 seconds.

Have you tried changing it to some other value to see if that works first e.g. 5 seconds?

it's not like the ones in xp were particularly good about disappearing!

Yeah, tried that. Although for some inexplicable reason you can only choose from five preset times

Try this:
1. Start > Run > regedit
2. Navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
3. Set the dword "ShowInfoTip" to 0.

That should fix things.

Thanks, but nope. Nothing changes even after a reboot. :-\

Also, wouldn't that variable normally disable them entirely? I still want balloon tips, just not... permanent ones.
