Thread: Vocabulary/grammar picked up from FF games

Default Vocabulary/grammar picked up from FF games

I would've posted this in the FFXII forum but the classic remakes also have a fair bit of fancy, over the top uppercrust and/or outdated English in them too.

Are there any phrases, words, grammatical aspects or any other odd speech patterns you've ended up putting into your vocabulary as a result of playing FF?

A fair amount of FFVII's dialogue helped me to stop writing in Queen's English back when I was in my early teens and encouraged me to write less formally when needed, and the "**** avails you not" from FFXII is stuck in my head forever... I now tend to use "avail" as a verb rather than "available" as an adjective.

    Now you go.

I look up the names of Final Fantasy stuff just out of curiosity, so I guess I learned a few things there. And now I'm one of the few people who know how to pronounce Cait Sith.

Isn't it "Ket shi" or something? I can never remember.

Either way, the Japanese "Ketto shii" reflects that.

Some sources said "ket shee" and some say "caught shee." Gaelic is weird.

Except for my need to spell things in the Ole English thanks to XII; I cannot think of an FF game expanding my vocab. Xenogears on the other hand...

"Sit down and drink your goddamn tea!!"
I never used the word 'goddamn' before in my life. Until final fantasy 7 that is.
