It certainly isn't as interesting as before. Simple solution, change the spacing between items, a few fonts here and there, or even the color scheme. Of course, the ideal setting is not quite as simple to explain. It's less user friendly because when you hover over the links on the side, you can't actually tell that they are links unless you were paying attention (I also work under the assumption that people are idiots). Okay, so they aren't links and are drop-down menus, I can certainly imagine someone not knowing what just happened when they do something stupid or their browser starts going haywire.
Of course, those are my justifications for my feedback. I have no real solution, so you can just go ahead and ignore me; it's not like I use the frontsite.
