I would remake it based on the Amano art. Then you would get something that looked awesome while still pissing off FFVII fans.

So all the characters would have the same face (regardless of gender) and their clothes would look raggy and/or ghostly, and the only thing making it possible to tell the men from the women would be their chest size, if that.

Exactly! So nothing will change regarding Sephiroth

Personally, I would love to see any game with Amano designs accurately shown. Hell, I would buy a FFX remake if the graphics were Amano designs instead of the god-awful ones they had originally.
