but I can't really have a dog because they shed so so so much and the dogs that don't irritate my allergies so much are really ugly.

also I like both cats and dogs, but dogs make much better companions imo. Also there can be bloody vicious and extremely intelligent/stupid animals of both kinds, so they're about equal in my book. A dog will love you more directly, but a puttycat will appreciate you over time as well.
