Help! New Computer!

My mom just got a new computer, and the first time we turned it on, the monitor said the resolution was out of range. The buttons on the monitor don't do anything, what do I doooo?

Reboot your computer and as soon as it turns on start mashing on the F8 key. This will bring up a menu to boot into safe mode, which uses a resolution of 640x480. You should be able to change the normal resolution this way by right-clicking the desktop, then going to Properties, clicking the Settings tab and setting it to something lower than it is.

Did the monitor come new with the computer or is it an old one?

It's an old one that came with a computer we bought about three years ago.
