    Default I've Been Raped ;__;

So I just got home from my friend's house, turned on my computer, and I see three icons on my desktop that were never there before, one for "Error Cleaner" one for "Spyware & Malware Protection" and one for "Privacy Protector". Then I go to do things as usual...and well...EVERYTHING is gone.

No really. When I hit the start button, there's no programs, no my computer, no control panel, etc, it's just blank with my frequently used program shortcuts. If I try to open the task manager, it's greyed out and won't let me. If I even try to change my desktop background it says "Your administrator has disabled the control panel". Also, if I go into My Computer via the Recycle Bin, the C: drive IS GONE. Completely gone. Also there's a little red blinking "x" and "VIRUS ALERT!" in the system tray, and the time has been changed to military time, meanwhile stupid popups for virus software keep popping up, Internet Explorer randomly opens and goes to related sites, and it will only allow me to go to certain websites...if I Google anything related to viruses, trojans, or spyware, I'm re-directed to one of their stupid ad sites. I'd provide a picture, but because of all this I can't access Photoshop or even MS Paint.

So umm...if anyone has any advice that'd be great.

If you can't run an anti-virus program, you might have to reformat your HD.

You may be able to save some of your data if it still exists by getting a cable and hooking it up to another hard drive and transferring it over, but yeah, you're going to have to wipe it by the sound of it.

Hold on, I remember my brother having a similar issue, at least to the extent it kept telling him the administrator acount was locked.

He managed to downgrade (Or Upgrade, depending on your view) from Vista to XP and it fixed it, without having to reformat.

If its not to late, that MIGHT be a valid option if you are running Vista.

So everything has came back. The only problems I'm still having now is I can't figure out how to change my time back to standard rather than military, and my browsers are still under hijack. Whenever I google anything virus/malware/spyware related, or how to change the time display it directs me to some stupid ad site. For example, I googled "windows xp military time" and clicked on the first result, which is to a page on bleepingcomputer.com, and when I click it it takes me to an ad page about discount shipping on Windows XP.

I had something similar with the searches and popups happen to my laptop once. I went to the useful freeware thread and downloaded what was recommended and fixed it.

Happened to me too. Had to run it in safe mode in XP with networking, downloaded Kaspersky trial, it found 243 virusses and about 1200 spyware programs. xD

Never had it in vista though.

If you want to be able to work, open task manager and end all processes out of SYSTEM except for explorer.exe

I swear, if someone did that to one of my computers, I'd kill them slowly.

    Any idea who it was?

    That has to suck =[

I once had a virus: The Oompa Loompa Virus. The Oompa Loompa song was on a continuous loop and a popup would come up every now and then saying "T3H 0ompa L0ompa Owns you!!!11!!" or something like that. Plus, it would always crash my computer and then the blue screen of death would show up. IT WAS SO ANNOYING! I locked up that windows screen name by changing the password to random numbers and letters that I wouldn't remember, then made a whole new screen name and used that instead.

One day I went in and actually found the file that caused me so many problems. I deleted it and now i can use that screen name any time I want with no problems! =D

What caused it was I clicked on a link to a video on myspace and it directed me to this site with a popup saying "install microsoft blah blah to view this video" so I tried to and...never again =[

I found a wonderful client down in the bowels of the tech message boards of the internet called SDFix that fixed everything. Yay.

Literally? As in there are physical holes in your hard drive if you open up your computer and look at it?
