Okay, seriously. Someone really needs to fookin die for this.

The day the earth stood still works as a fantastic movie because of it's sharp writing and great acting. I mean seriously, we studied this out back in my OAC drama class and everyone agreed that this could easily be adapted into a play if the performances could be strong enough.

Hollywood will just bugger it up. The slightest modern day special effect or snappy line will mess the movie up. It's supposed to be a social commentary on the paranoia and self destructive potential of the nuclear age and the war-like tendencies of the american culture in particular, and humanity as a whole. In todays age that would be even more potent, but these days hollywood just doesn't have the nerve or the talent to pull off a film like that.
