Thread: The best emulation controller?

  1. #1

    Default The best emulation controller?

Let's just say for instance that I have full collections of ROM's for NES, SMS, Genesis, SNES, GBA, N64 and PSX on my PC. What would be the best USB controller to use for them? Or would I be looking at buying a few different ones?

Where would be the best place to look for them be, other than eBay?

    Cheers,
    Omecle

Edit: In fact, scratch PSX, I can convert them to EBOOT's and play them on my PSP.

I would try to hunt down a Sega Saturn USB controller, because it's the best ever for old stuff. There was a batch of them on Ebay a month or two ago. You might be able to find one if you go lookin'.

    Do you mean this?

How would that go for N64 emulation? Because that has like, heaps of buttons (C-buttoms as well as joystick).

Edit: Would it be easier to just buy an Xbox360 controller?

play-asia has some really good PS2/PS1 -> USB converters that I'd recommend. For N64 stuff you'd just need to rebind in a way similar to how OoT was updated in the GC port (second analog stick being the C buttons, L/R on L1/R1 and z on R2)
Well, this is assuming you have a working PS1/2 controller. If you don't then a 360 controller might be just as straightforward.

Oh sweet, I have a spare PS2 controller. I never thought about getting a USB adapter for it. Thanks!

I use a Logitech USB controller. It looks exactly like a PS2 controller and I use it for all my emulators except N64 (Which it doesn't work all that well with).

I paid $30 for the pair at circuit city about two years ago. Should probably look in to it...

I think the PS1/2->USB will be better with the N64. Let me know.

FCE Ultra is an open-source, portable NES/Famicom emulator based on Bero's FCE source code. It has excellent sound emulation and support for a wide variety of in-cart expansion hardware.CPU timing is good.Several VS Unisystem games are supported well.

Nice. Too bad this thread was about controllers, not emulators.

Thanks for trying to help, hammythomas. This thread is very old though and the original topic seems to have already been resolved.
