I was replaying ff7 and on the first trip to Costa Del Sol there's this guy in a room and someone taking a shower and Johnny acts like he knew cloud. I just can't seem to remember how. I've played pretty much every ff7 game but this still makes no since.
Can you explain ?

You can find him in Sector 7 at the beginning of the game, too. No drama, no skeletons in the closet--he was just one of Cloud and Tifa's childhood friends. He's only remarkable for how unremarkable he is.

he's filler, supposed to be one of the first people Tifa befrinded when she got to Midgar... when he calls Cloud "childhood friend" he does it in jest because everyone in the Sector VII Slums were watching Tifa recount the Neibelheim Well Promise story the night before Jhonny leaves Sector VII...

For a minor character, Johnny always used to interest me slightly. I always got the feeling that some of his background got abruptly removed from the game at the last miniute. (I am not saying it did, just that that's how it looks).
He knew Tifa and Cloud, and was in SOLDIER, yet I can't see any evidence in the flashbacks that he was, unless he was that other soldier who dissappears midway - but I doubt it was him. Also he calls Cloud a murderer at one point (depending on who's in your team I think) what does he mean by this? Why isn't it explained?
Unless he was meant to be one the 3 kids at the mountain, I honestly can't see how he fits in.

Hell no, Johnny wasn't in SOLDIER. He told Tifa that he was considering it, but from her reaction decided against it.
I still think they should do something important with him though. He just looks too cool to be so useless.

Nibelheim. Just because Cloud was believed to be apart of SOLDIER.

Johnny's a damn good survivor, really - he avoided the carnage at Nibelheim, then he (and his parents?) made it out of Sector 7 alive. He even went on to purchase a home, get married and settle down in Costa del Sol, before eventually returning to live in Edge andstalk Tifaearn an honest living as a cafe owner. Quite a "normal" life, compared to most of the game's cast...

Well Cloud was technically in SOLDIER wasn't he? He just (SPOILER)wasn't one of the sucsessful ones like Sephiroth and Zack (i.e. "First Class")

No he was an infantry which is a foot soldier. but not an offical 3rd, 2nd or 1st class. I think shinra recuited alot of people but only some became soldier. other then that they were the army.
