Wireless Mouse problems

Well iv had this wireless mouse for over 4 years now and it seems to me that the range of my mouse is getting smaller and smaller, I use Duracell Ultra batteries and they used to last for a long time but over the past few months I find the battery life has been dwindleing and that even when I put new batteries in the mouse the range still is really small, now my question is: do wireless mouse's get more redundant over time, do I have to buy a new mouse?

Re you using rechargeable batteries? If not is there anything that is near or inbetween the mouse and the receiver that may cause interference?

Just tried cleaning it, completely dissasembled it and put it back together again and the range of it is still really small.

and no there is nothing at all in the way.
