I'll choose VIII. Sure it has a lot of problems, and a major lack of characterization, but the first time I played it I was completely wrapped in it. It was hard to choose it against other favourites like IX, or VI but in the end- it'll go to my first Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy IX is my very favorite. The world is magical, I love almost every character, the fighting system is so great. The love story is also my personal favorite. <3
It remains a mix of IV and VI for me. I voted IV though, because it needed more love on the poll.

FFIX for sure. It's the reason I joined this here forum. I love the characters and the whole political story. Plus the love story is entirely too cute :3

I love Final Fantasy VI, but VII is my favourite game ever and I know it like the back of my hand lol. Final Fantasy IX is my 3rd favourite. I don't really care for the rest of them.
I'd have to say FFIV for nostalgic reasons. It has 2 of my very favorite characters (Cecil and Rydia), the music was memorable, and the difficulty was just right.
Second place is a tie between VI and III. III was the pioneer of the variable (yet definable, not the whole 'make your own class' system from II) job class system, which I loved, and VI was the only one, in my opinion, that broke the job class system and didn't suck for doing so.
I guess I have to give an honorable mention to X as well, since it was technically my 'first' Final Fantasy I completed. I'll admit that I wasn't crazy about the sphere grid system, but the gameplay was fun and it didn't have many boring parts that I dread when replaying games (there's always that part in a game where when replaying, you're all UGH I HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN?!).
FFVI. It was the game that got me into the series, and it's free from the inane melodrama that ruined a good number of main series FFs since it was released (of the ones I've played, IX was the exception).
That said, what's with the lack of Tactics on this poll?

My favorite is VII because it is the best story with the most twist and the best characters. XII runs a close seecond if only for the beautiful images and fantastic gameplay.
IV. It epitomizes FF to me: wizards, castles, bards, swords.

My vote goes for VI.
I have played through all those FF in the poll and also Revenant Wings and Mystic Quest. I havent played Tactics, one day when I have money I will buy PSP and Tactics.
Yeah VI my favorite for obvious reasons: best story, great soundtrack, best cast of characters( VII and IV come closest,XII might too if the main team itself was cooler),best levelling up system, and monster desing is great too. Bad monster design FF is VIII. It has lots of weird crappy looking monsters.
Rest of the FF are pretty much on the same line, VII,IV,III and XII being a bit better and X being worst. More about this in "least favorite FF".
