dvd troubles

okay on my pc i have 4 video programs (vlc wmp powerdvd interactual) for any dvd i put in vlc wmp and interactual show the video and play only partial audio.
what i mean is i have jay and silent bob in right now and it works fine in powerdvd but in the others i can see it but i cant hear the voices, i can hear the music in every scene though.

this leads me to believe there is a problem with the audio channels but i cant figure out what i need to fix this

this started when i installed a new hard drive with a fresh OS

suggestions? (dont just tell me to stick with powerdvd... i dont really like it)
