You will probably just unlock them for Arcade and Versus mode they won't have a Story mode I assume.

EDIT: To Vivisteiner: To be honest, the story modes listed are not all that spoilerific.(SPOILER) Most characters seem to be dealing with their issues they dealt with in their main games except for Warrior of Light, Bartz, and Zidane. Even, then, they are just prologue summaries you will probably read in the manual or character select screen anyway.
