    FFVIII's ending, easily.
    FFX (Suteki Da Ne)

And I even really liked the song at the of "The Spirits Within"...

The piano versions of both FFVIII and FFX's ending themes are absolutely beautiful.

Otherwise the correct answer is Ristar.
Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine.

Good to see; the real "life-changers" have already been mentioned. All that remains is to offer up some of the lesser-known and respectable ones.

    Marry me.

"Life ~ Faraway Promise", I believe, is the track you are referring to, and it is one of the most utterly, savagely poignant pieces of music ever written, as far as I can tell.

I also quite enjoyed the jazzy Saturn arrangement of Megaman X3's "Credits". Elsewhere, Shadow the Hedgehog, while a somewhat eclectic soundtrack and deeply polarized in terms of quality in the peripheral tracks, has a few decent ending songs. Considering they are led by male vocalists, "Chosen One" and "Never Turn Back" are quite impressive. I find the former to be quite a depressing song, and its style is probably an acquired taste, but it elicits a strong feeling that is not disgust, so I therefore like it. The latter has creative vocals and Jun Senoue on guitar; to screw it up would take some work.
