Anyway,the relationship between Dalan and Vaan is mystical.Dalan acts as a magical master and treats Vaan as a mystical hero.That´s odd for just the mentor of an orphan.That would made sense if Dalan is the soul of Raminas and Vaan that of Rasler.I think Vaan always knew the thruth but he is supposed to hide it from the player.
