I think if he has the skills to throw a ball and not only make it hit something but throw it in such a way that it comes right back to him every time, then he has the skills to handle around the spikes and throw it hard enough to really hurt.

Besides its not like theres a library or a class for proper speech ettiquete in Besaid. What else is he gunna do besides practicing with the Blitzball?

That being said I dont like over the top religious nuts, but if everyone had the mysterious, silent, cool, personality then it would get rather predictable.

I like Wakka. He's goofy and fun comic relief, but has a serious edge involving his (SPOILER)older brother complex with Tidus, his relationship with Lulu, and his prejudice against Al Bhed.

The party is well balanced between goofy light characters (Tidus, Wakka, Rikku) and deadly serious characters (Lulu, Auron, and Kimahri). Yuna is between those extremes.

I tend to agree with Sir Helix, if in a less enthusiastic way. I simply dislike Wakka; he's a little like a stereotypical dumb sports guy - like Tidus except less funny and much less useful. The whole racism/religious fanaticism thing really got to me as well.
All in all though I just completely forgot about him and never used him again once I didn't have to =P

Well to be fair, Rikku is a small girl who potentially has grenades and items that can copy any of the characters' abilities
