There are some profs who will ask if you are late for the class not to come in or will take attendance and have it count for your mark, albeit a small part but those tend to be classes fuelled by discussion and such. Also, language classes tend to have strict rules about missing classes since they are usually pretty intensive. Like my Japanese class, can't miss more than 20% of classes (without a valid excuse) or automatic fail.
Locking the door though? Sounds like high school all over again. :/
