I still dont get how a robot can level up or drink potion

I figure that he is, on some level, 'alive'. At the very least, carrying (or powered by) Mako/spirit energy, hence his ability to use materia. And we're never told exactly how Reeve controls his wee robot kitty. I figure it's something akin to 'manipulate' materia.

Excellent theory. Whenever you use a potion, a green mist surrounds which is reminiscent of the lifestream. So, Cait Sith being powered by Mako would explain how he is able to be healed by potions and ethers.

There are helicopters in Final Fantasy VII.

Red XIII "It can talk?!!" but when they meet Cait nobody bats an eye over it. "Ah, a talking cat who has somehow brought a fat ugly stuffed moogle to life. Nothing out of the ordinary here."

Probably figure it's a dude in a moogle suit with a cat on his head or maybe a talking cat like "talking-beast Red XIII" (explaining why they don't find it weird... because they already met ONE DAMN THING that shouldn't be able to talk, why the hell would they bother questioning anything else) riding atop a robotic slot-machine shaped like a moogle.

Honeybee Inn Cait Sith is in a room with Reeve's parents. They both talk about their son working for Shinra so it makes sense. Perhaps a little prototype for the real thing.

I also think the STAR thing wasn't a complete lie. He probably did get a whole compatibility read but misread the information as being Aerith/Cloud when it was actually Aerith/Zack.
