    Default The Audacity of Hope

Has anyone else read/listened to Obama's book, The Audacity of Hope?

I listented to it while driving up and down California and the first thing that surprised and delighted me was that it was actually Obama himself doing the reading for the audio version of the book.

Secondly, I was just thoroughly impressed by everything he had to say in the book. I was extremely happy to hear him touch on so many issues with a sociological perspective. I always thought it'd be really cool to have a President who had a really good grasp on sociological concepts, myths, and realities. None of it was groundbreaking, but all of it was thoughtful and intelligent and some parts of it were downright hilarious or pulled at my heartstrings.

And the thing that got me the most about his book was how self-aware Barack is, and how well measured his thoughts are and the clarity that he possesses. Yeah, he was very evocative and dignified and charismatic during the campaign, but there was nothing before, during, or after the Presidential campaign that made me see Barack Obama in such a positive light as this book.

After listening to it the whole way through, I felt like I had a really good grasp on his motives, his understanding of the world, his vision for the future, and I thought, "holy smurf, this guy is amazing." I always liked Obama, but it wasn't until after the Audacity of Hope that I consider myself to have tasted the Obama kool aid.

I purchased it shortly after he got elected but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I haven't been reading much lately, due to increased work hours + spending more time fixing tech issues on the Internet. I'll probably get around to it within the next few months; both of his books look interesting.
