    Default Code Geass

It's been a while since we've had a dedicated thread to this show, and I just watched the first two episodes (I'd watched every other one from about the middle to the end of the first season) and OMG I STILL LOVED THEM.

Things actually kinda make sense now that I've seen the begining, and I'm looking forward to finishing the first season again.

(every time I see Karen piloting a Knightmare I just have to say how badass she is and how much I love her)

I have my issues with Geass, but it's a hell of an entertaining show.

Bandai actually has the first 5 episodes up on YouTube right now, in High Quality, and you can choose between Japanese Audio with captions or English Audio. So interested parties can check it out for free, and legally, in decent-ish quality in the language of their choosing. Not a bad deal.

Just started this the other day, I'm 5 or 6 episodes in and enjoying it (as much as one can after finishing something as absolutely perfect as Cardcaptor Sakura). CLAMP did the character designs, so that's always a plus.

At this point, I'm not too intrigued by the story, but the action is pretty cool. Hopefully it picks up more later on.

Enjoyed it at first but as it went on it got stale and the story got pretty annoying. Didn't really like the last episode and from what I've heard the second series was a sack of shiet so I doubt I'll be arsed to watch it though. Was pretty disappointed though, thought things seemed pretty good for the first half of the series.

R2 is completely different from R1. There's very little mindscrews or games to be played, and devolves from a well-played game of strategy to plothax. Though thoroughly enjoyable if you turn your brain off for the duration, it's too different of a feel. By then, I think that Sunrise was running out of ideas (and hoping it would simply tide people over until the new season of Gundam), thinking that the fans would focus solely on the characters and the failed "Gattai" syndrome they tried to get going on. Lots of explosions, though, so it got unnecessarily good reviews from idiots on MAL (including my own 9/10).

The ending was horribly predictable, but it worked.

    I really liked this series! The ending was spoiled for me about five minutes before I watched it, though, so I was pretty mad when I saw it ;_;

The Zero mask always makes me think of Power Rangers, though xD

Mindscrews in R2 die out a bit, though the plot is still well done. It just gets barried behind the fact the series moves more toward "I GOTS THE BAD ASS ROBOT".

A few episodes before the end you'll already figure out whats going to happen, but it was still a great way to end the series, and there is still a point plot wise that was extremely well done, regardless of quality decline.

(SPOILER) I speak of when Nanally supposedly dies in the explosion and a series of events that go wrong all at once. At that very moment, all of Zero's lies, deciets, and wrong doings come crashing down all at once. It was very well done.

    Overall its worth seeing R2.

That was kind of the point of R2. When the show became popular, and moved to prime time from late night, they completely rewrote everything to try and appeal to the new wider audience, rather then the people that originally started watching the show. That and Bandai wanted more mechs to make more toys out of for sales, so ya'know.

Though there's rumors of a season 3 running about. Rumors that it might be the second half of the series as it was originally written and supposed to be. Which I think would be interesting to see how that would have turned out.

wooo, up to ep 19. I'm pleased by how much I remember and also by how much more easily I understand what's going on now.

It was simply a statement of truth. As a business maneuver, it was pretty well done, even if it alienated the original fans. R2 was damn entertaining despite how much it sucked.

Screw season three, (SPOILER)especially since all of the loose ends were tied up by the word of the writers. Can I get a Nightmare of Nunally instead?

I've spoiled myself a little for R2 by reading a few lines too far on wikipedia, but here's hoping it doesn't disappoint so much now that I'm armed with a little foreknowledge.

(still can't believe I made it through the whole first season though)

From what I remember of the Gundam series, it seemed the main characters had the same machine for pretty much the whole series. In Code Geass, the characters are constantly building and obtaining new tech and new mechs which is definitely a plus. I had stopped watching the show for a while. I was surprised when I came back to find that Lelouch's identity was known to so many people.

Code Geass is supposed to run in the same vein as Death Note, having a main character who wants to change the world by his own means (or whatever means he's acquired that is), but I like CG better, likely because I feel I'd do things in much the same way as Lelouch. I like to do some strategizing but I'm more of a direct guy and don't like lying to people to their faces or having my enemies die in freak accidents and suicides. I never hated Kira/Light more than when he had that chick head home to kill herself.

    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

The big difference in Motivation in Geass and Deathnote, however, is Zero isn't trying to make the world better for the sake of making it better. Everything he does is for his sister Nunnally, as Light was doing it for the good of the world, even if he went a TAD bit crazy.

I liked Code Gaess R2, not as much as R1, but still good. Both seasons were certainly emotional and had plenty of depressing moments, as well as plenty of action. I just liked to see how much of an impact someone like Lelouch would make and how he is the mysterious masked hero.

Death Note is awesome, too. It was just an awesome cat-and-mouse plot. It wasn't as good after a certain someone dies, BUT I still enjoyed it and found it intense and kept me wanting more. Light was a character you could hate, and I certainly did when he killed that female detective at the beginning of the series. Almost every episode would have me on the edge of my seat, thinking of what would happen.

Code Gaess and Death Note are both in my top 5 anime list.
