I just want to know

What is the point of that smurfing black chocobo up in the corner of my forum view to the left of "Welcome, Brandless Goods. You last visted: ..."

I clicked on him and he showed me my one stupid private message.

Is that all he's there for? Is that the entire purpose of his existence?

No, when you become an awesome enough member he spreads his wings, flies out of the screen and takes you to the promise land. I'd tell you how to become awesome enough, but people would probably get pissed at me for giving away secrets.
