Something I never got about Cait Sith (spoilers)

This is a very minor point in the game, but I just never got it.

Cait is not really "alive" as he is shown in the game, he is remote controlled by Reeve who is in Midgar the whole time, so anything that happens to Cait does not effect Reeve. That is how Cait is able to "die" in Temple of Ancients, as Reeve will just send another one to help the team.

But hears what I don't get, (and remember it's very minor) when Cait goes off to get the Black Materia he tripps, which is fair enough, but he goes "oww". That is the part that confuses me.

Reeve/Cait should not react in pain, both the team and the player know by this point that Cait is just a toy being controlled by someone (we just don't know who yet), so Reeve doesn't need to pretend anymore - further more, who the hell is he pretending to?! There is no one else in the room at the time...

Yell that did seem a bit strange to me and he also monologued his assumed death like he was a living being. I think Reeve must have some problems. Also how the hell did that new Cait Sith get there so fast!?

It's like when you lightly hit something and it doesn't hurt but you still say ow, yet when you actually get hurt you don't.

Also how the hell did that new Cait Sith get there so fast!?

    lmao @ Meat Puppet.

Tbh Cait Sith in general is just a walking plot hole. What I always found funny was that Reeves job as Cait Sith was to get the keystone. Once that's done he just decided to tag along with the party. But how does he get away with it? The thought of him sitting in Shinra Board meetings with Rufus, Scarlet and co while secretly controlling Cait Sith by holding a remote controller in his hands under the table is hilarious.

Rufus: So did everyone understand the plan?
Scarlet: Yes Sir! Kwaa haa haa!
    Heidnegger: Yes! Gwaa haa haa!
Palmer: I want lard in my tea...oh I mean yes.
Hojo: Soon the reunion will take place!
Rufus: ......um, cool? How about you Reeves?
    Reeves: ......
    Palmer: Reeves pay attention moron!
    Reeves: Oh...shut up fatty.

Barret: (over the remote controls speakers): What did you call me...
Reeves: Nothing Barret, I was talking to Palmer...
    Rufus: ......Reeves, you're fired.

Hmm, then why does the party even bother with airships?

I don't see any real "plot holes" surrounding Cait Sith, unless you count the characters being so untroubled by a robotic, magical stuffed toy helping them out. It's not a "plot hole" if they simply didn't explain something fully...

I figure that he is, on some level, 'alive'. At the very least, carrying (or powered by) spirit energy, hence his ability to use materia. And much like FFX's Lulu and her dolls, we're never told exactly how Reeve controls his wee robot kitty. I figure it's something akin to a specialised version of the 'manipulate' materia.

Well, it is being remote controlled, but it is never shown how the remote process is. Reeve could have synchronized himself with Cait in order to remote control every aspect of the doll. And if that were the case, it would be like he was Cait.

That seems to be how it works in Dirge of Cerberus; the two can move in perfect synch when he wants them to.

I always kind of looked at him as a big white robot thingy with a living cat thingy on top.

Alternatively, he could have been a real thingamajig with Reeves controlling him by means of 'sending orders'. In the advanced world they lived in, it's possible that Cait Sith was partially alive, or even that Reeves was able to 'feel' what his robot was feeling via some kind of magic and/or technology.

Maybe it's no so much "Oww" as in pain, but as in "Why is my screen looking at the ground now?". Basically, it doesn't have to be an expression of pain.

They see me rolling. They hating, patrolling.

I never got why the tried to make the scene where Cait Sith "dies" sad. They already mentioned that he was nothing but a robot being controlled by someone at Shinra, so we should we care that he's about to 'die'? Even if we did think "Aww, this is sad" they would have ruined the emotional scene by bringing in a new Cait 3 minutes later!

Also...just what the hell is he meant to be? Do Avalanche think he is a real cat controlling a moogle robot when in actual fact both the moogle and the cat are controlled by Reeves? Or are they meant to think that the moogle is real too?

Also when everybody bumps into Red XII they ask "It can talk?!!" but when they meet Cait nobody batters an eye lid over it. "Ah, a talking cat who has somehow brought a fat ugly stuffed moogle to life. Nothing out of the ordinary here."
