    Default Knowledge of the Lifestream

The attachment is just something I noticed when talking to Cloud during his Mako poisoning event. They weren't kidding about him getting tons of knowledge from far away places while he was in the Lifestream. Anyone else notice this?

That's been a wonderful acknowledgment that I've seen many times in all the Xenogears forums I've been to. Though I'm guessing the screenshot is from the PC or a fan made one cause the original PS1 word he says is Zenogias. I think the Official Xenogears Strategy Guide even mentions this, now that I think about it...

Edit: Ah, I found a link Xenogears: God and Mind >> Encyclopaedia

It is from the PC version. I suppose they wanted to clarify things a bit when they redid the dialogue.

It was "zenogias" in the original release because the Sony guys doing the localization didn't understand the reference. Said localization was cleaned up a bit for the later PC release, by which time everyone knew what it should have said.

The babble about angels and mirror fragments comes from the vocal theme of Xenogears, "Small Two of Pieces."

So is zenogias a more literal/direct translation of the title of Xenogears from Japanese?

It's a phonetic transliteration. In other words, it's roughly how you'd pronounce "Xenogears" in Japanese.

Yes, I remember hearing about this as a reference to another game by Squaresoft that was coming out at the time: Xenogears. As others have explained, the screenshot in the attachment is a better translated version of what was originally said, "... zeno... gias..."

Weird.. I can't even remember Cloud saying that.

Must've not made sense to me at the time.

You have to talk to him three times in a row when he is in his Mako-poisoned state. The first time you talk to him, he asks "What number am I?", the second time, he just moans, but if you talk to him again, he will mention Xenogears.

Ah, I usually quit after he starts moaning(he moans quite enough in the game already), so that's that figured out.

Always talk to everyone until they start to repeat themselves.

How come when they don't know how something should be spelled they don't just call up Japan? What's so hard about that?

edit: or maybe they mistranslated it on purpose because they didn't expect a release to come to america and didn't want to get anyone's hopes up?

Japanese developers are usually more interested in making their next game than assisting in the localization of their last one. But in FFVII's case, the localization staff was so incompetent that they probably wouldn't have thought to ask anyway.

Holy CRAP!!! I can't believe I never saw that. I ALWAYS talk to EVERYONE until they repeat themselves. I could've sworn Cloud repeats himself as soon as he starts his moaning. That or just "..."
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.
