Thread: Greatest Cover Version?

Default Greatest Cover Version?

The cover of 'Don't Let Go' by Deepfield got me thinking. Now, I adore cover versions of songs. I love to see a band showing their own take on a song, and in particular I love to see songs transposed (not in key ) into another genre.

What, in your opinion, are the greatest cover songs you've heard?

Cradle of Filth's cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden is the greatest cover of all time imo.

Also Mat Weddle's cover of Hey Ya by Outkast.

Norther's cover of Sabotage is awesome.
You hold my heart in your manly hands I wanna feel the throb of your handsome gland. I wanna hold you tight like a newborn kitten, against my flesh like a cashmere mitten. Tickly tick, I'm makin' skin bump heaven and all the way down it's lookin' cleanly shaven. Prickety pricks, it's stubble on stubble I better slow down or I'm in real trouble. Want you, touch you, feel you, taste you! Knick knack whacky whack 'till I see the man stew. spin you around let me see that hole! I'm a tunnelin' in a like a short hair mole. Once I'm inside I'm gonna leave a trace, half in there and half on that face! One finger, two finger, there fingers gone! Mano a mano I love you John!

Darn skippy.

Since the OP mention one of my initial picks, I'll go with........

Holy Diver by Killswitch Engage
Men In Black by Forever The Sickest Kids
Tennessee by New Found Glory(though the lyrics don't really match him)
Somebody's Watching Me by Mysto and Pizzi

Thanks to Owen McWare for the sig. This sig is staying up forever no matter what.

Marilyn Manson's cover of Personal Jesus is pretty iconic.

Then there's Russell Watson's version of Rod Stewart's Faith of the Heart, which works for me.

There're undoubtedly more, but these are two that really come to mind for me.

Oh, and William Shatner's attempt at Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is also great, but not for its musical merits.
