People call it "Final Fantasy," saying that it meant that the company was near bankruptcy and had produced one last game.
Question: What else did Square ever do back in those NES days that flopped so badly?

King's Knight comes to mind...
Easily one of the worst top down shooters I've ever played.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
What ever the reason of the game being called Final Fantasy, I think we have so many because someone called Cid help save Square which is why there is a Cid in most the games, but I'm not sure if that's true.
King's Knight, Deep Dungeon, Thexder, and The 3-D Adventures of World Runner were not exactly the stuff of legends. And Square wasn't an arcade giant like Namco or Taito; they essentially started out as a computer café that happened to put out games. Without a hit, it was natural that they'd burn out.
I would have to say that...
Chrono Cross was one of their worst.
It dosent have a point. oh and sorry for the large pic ^-^'''

But it had a wonderful musical score, a colorful cast of characters, and beautiful environments! While it may have lacked focus in some areas that it needed it, it can only truly be the worst if it flopped all aspects.
Chrono Cross was released twelve years after Final Fantasy, and it didn't really "flop" commercially. You are grossly missing the point.
Actually, this has a LOT to do with the Mana games (called the Seiken Densetsu or "Legend of the Sacred Sword"). Originally Square was going to make an RPG called Seiken Densetsu, but it was too ambitious so they had to scrap that idea and created Final Fantasy, because they suspected it would be their last game.
Oddly, they did end up creating Seiken Densetsu (Final Fantasy Adventure in the States). But how much that game has to do with their original plans remains to be seen.
IT'S RAD RACER. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD RACER!
This game had it all. You were the f***ing Rad Racer. Nothing could stop you. All you needed a little Rattitude! Look at the next screen shot. LOOK AT IT.
Yeah, what's Final Fantasy? I forgot because the idea of going the breakneck speed of 214km/hr just blew my mind wide open.
Still not enough proof of how badass this game is? F***ing Lucas--LUCAS--from The Wizard used the god damned POWER GLOVE and played this classic gem. Do you have any idea how much p**** Lucas pulls in? S***. Watch his badass moves in the link below!

Holy s***, I can't believe it.
Holy s***.
*dies from uncontrollable laughter*
Since this is most likely a temporary thing, I shall commemorate this great moment in history with a screen cap of the glorious justice that has been done.
