Default EoFF Book Club (April) - Howl's Moving Castle

Ok, so Howl's Moving Castle looks like the winner. We'll have the whole of April to read and discuss the book so that means... we start tomorrow! Short notice but it's a relatively quick read so don't worry if you can't get your hands on it ASAP, it should be easy enough to catch up.

If you're cheap and don't wanna buy the book (and you're ok with reading stuff online), you can read the whole thing here on Scribd.

    Step 1: Get the book
    Step 2: Read the book
Step 3: Talk about the book

Here's the general timeline we should try for.

April 1st-7th: Get your hands on the book and start reading
April 12th: At least halfway through the book
    April 20th: Finish the book
    Rest of April: Discussion

The timeline is assuming that y'all read really really slowly. I think the book can be finished in a couple days but I just want to give everyone enough time and it's mostly here for spoiler purposes. Anything in the second half of the book should be put into spoiler tags until the 12th. The ending of the book should be kept in spoiler tags until the 20th. After those dates, you can assume that everyone is caught up to that point and we don't need to bother with the tags.

    Gots?

I might read it depending on whether or not I remember this weekend to grab it or not. I think my girlfriend has it at her parent's house, so we'll see.

I'm looking forward to reading this again. I just read the third book in the "series" which just came out (House of Many Ways). It would be nice to revisit Howl and Sofie from the beginning.

This was one of the few ones on the list I didn't actually own. Thanks for the Scribd link; the last thing I need to do right now is buy more books.

i'll start on this tomorrow, or something.

I've already read part of it, but I think I'll just start over since it's been awhile. I have two classes ending early this semester and I have a lot of projects to do while reading, so having a large schedule actually really helps. Still shouldn't take too long if I don't stop part-way through this time. xD

I'll try to get it, but if it's not as my closest library, then I'm forgetting about it.

Yay books! My book store didn't have it so I'll either get it online or read the free version.

Finished it. (the scribd version was poorly OCRed )

I couldn't stop thinking of the anime the entire time I read it. I think that this was much more poorly paced, but the story makes me ^_^ anyways.

anyways (SPOILER)The most interesting part that was different was Howl being from Wales.

Rubah: you found it poorly paced? In what way?

And as much as I live Miyazaki and his anime based on this book, the book is soooo much better. Especially the clever little nugget you mentioned in your spoiler (which they revisit in the third Howl book The House of Many Ways).

Well, that's true. But I liked the unconventional plotting of the book. When you read as much as I do, it's nice to get a book in there every once in a while that doesn't follow the traditional formula.
