Ubuntu sez (when I double click the card): "Unable to mount location".

I'm prepared to do a reformat if that's what it takes just to have the card working again, but I can't seem to do that either. Windows says "Formatting unsuccessful" or something to that effect as soon as I press format, and if I understand correctly I can't reformat it in Ubuntu until I mount it, which I can't.
