She dropped something in the water (possible the child) and then took off her clothes and jumped in to get it, however she could not get back in the boat and was clawing away at the sides?
Or she went for a swim and couldnt get back in the boat and was clawing away at the sides.
Are pirahnas involved in any way?
By nails were you talking about fingernails?
By nails were you talking about toenails?
By nails were you talking about small pointy metal objects?

Kefka's coming, look intimidating!
Have a nice day!!
Were her nails damaged due to trying to dig?
Were her nails damaged due to trying to climb something that she could not climb?
Were her nails damaged due to any kind of biological reason, eg. disease?
Was the murderer also in the water with her at any point?
Was the time of death in the dark hours?
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
was there any blood involved?
no
Did someone accidentally hit her with a paddle and she fell in the water? no
Was she grabbing at the possibly wooden boat to try and get back on it? why would it be wooden? Uh, no
Can she swim? yes
I believe that leaves "Ocean," right? yes
Was there water-skiing or surfing involved? no
Was she conscious while drowning? yes
Was there any sort of poisonous fish involved? no

Or she went for a swim and couldnt get back in the boat and was clawing away at the sides. ooh, close. Now you only lack why she couldn't get back in the boat

Was the murderer also in the water with her at any point? there's no murderer
Was the time of death in the dark hours? irrelevant
Was her foot stuck in seaweed?
Did she get a cramp?
Was she high?
Could she simply not find the ladder and the boat was infact quite large?
Is this an alternate universe to the Titanic movie where Jack doesnt stop Rose from jumping off the back?

She couldn't get back in the boat because it was NOT made of wood! It was made of plastic or steel and it's always a struggle to get back up them suckers. Is that correct?
Was she alone at the time?
If not, did she cry for help?
Did anyone hear her?
If someone was able to hear her, were they unable to get to her in time?
Did they run over her with the boat, accidentally?
Did she know how to swim?
Was the weather causing problems for her?
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Well whatever the reason it serves her right for leaving the kitchen.

Hehe, I was thinking wooden because that would explain why her nails are damaged. A steel boat wouldn't really damage your nails as much as wood could. But yeah, a large steel SHIP. Makes sense why she can't get back up...
You can pretty much always damage your nails while trying to climb anything, even plastic or rubber. Especially for a girl, as they are more likely to be long nails that way. Were they long nails, Levian?

She couldn't get back in the boat because it was NOT made of wood! It was made of plastic or steel and it's always a struggle to get back up them suckers. Is that correct? yes, you're almost there
Was she alone at the time? There's also a child involved, which was mentioned earlier.
If not, did she cry for help? there was no one around that could help her
Did anyone hear her? no
Did she know how to swim? yes

The child was still in the boat when she went for a swim. When she tried to get back in, the child accidentally turned the boat on and it took off, ripping her nails off. No one can swim faster than a boat so she drowned.
Oh gods, why? ಥ_ಥ
I'll pretend you asked a more vague question
Did the boat move at all? no
