My laptop's CPU temperature is at or above 60°C for long periods of time. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is everything going to be okie dokie?

Do you happen to know what kind of processor/laptop it is? Off the top of my head I'd say that's pretty normal for a CPU under load in a laptop. Hell, even in a desktop if you use the stock Intel CPU cooler you'll usually see temperatures that high under load. Seeing as how laptops don't cool as efficiently I'd say it's to be expected and not something to really worry about too much.
Just don't try to overclock it.![]()
Yeah, 60°C is decently normal for a laptop CPU.

My laptop would average about 58C on general music listening/internet browsing with the fanspeed at 4800. It's a mbp though, and a known egg-cooker.
Things you can do:
1) increase your fanspeed
2) check the thermal paste on your heat sinks (probably shouldn't do this! its mostly just a mbp thing anyways)
3) don't worry about it. Your computer will be fine at 60C, if possibly unpleasant to have on your lap.
I've seen temperatures as high as 80 C for my laptop ;). But you shouldn't do like what rubah said if you've got a laptop. Chances are you won't be able to put it together again correctly :p.

Okie dokie, thanks everyone :</>D!
if your worried about the heat on your lap go to walmart or newegg and get a laptop cooler pad. its basically a pair of fans in a frame that pulls the heat off the computer and shoots it out the back end.

modern cpu's can handle any degree up to 70, over that i'd say it's time for some more fans. buy a tray with fans you can place under your laptop if it should ever pass the 70 mark. The computer will run realy slow when over 70 but the danger of burning your computer will never arrive as new cpu's and mobo's turn themself off when you reach the dangerzone.
