With rare exception the X button is always the "confirm" button on the playstation in the UK the main rare exceptions I can remember being stuff by Square Enix such as FFVII (FFVIII & FFIX actually had X as the main confirm button), Front Mission 3 and Parasite Eve 2 I believe also used O a lot as a confirmation. I prefer X and in most games where possible swap confirm to X since the X button feels 1) more natural to my lazy ass thumbs and 2) is more common and therefore I don't tend to forget it so often I set O to menu opening normally unless all menu commands are done in the pause menu.
O makes more sense to begin with, and it's the confirm button when I play Mushihimesama, DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou, or ESPGaluda.

Well seeing as only a handful of PS games have O as confirm, I would say X.

It was really weird to use the X button in FF8 after having played FF7 so much, but playing FF7 these days it feels weird to actively use the circle button so much.
