I reckon it's probably the Highwind as well.
But just to keep my chances alive, I'll guess the rocket ship's escape pod.

The last line of the riddle is quite literal.
You're all a ways off still, but this should narrow your guesses quite a bit.
Quite literal... I keep coming back to the thought that your talking about the Holy/Lifestream that rises up to stop meteor at the end, it is a light that you follow back to Midgar (what I presume you mean by home) but seeing as both have already been guessed... I'm out of idea's right now.
Could you be referring to the light of Marlene's window that you see just before Holy rises up to stop meteor... I honestly don't know how this would fit in with the rest of the riddle.
