So far what has been your favorite new installment in a classic series of games. My personal favorites are Contra 4 and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.

Yeah, the first thing that came to mind was Contra 4. It eschews the antagonistic design philosophies that bogged down the sequels preceding it, while returning to the qualities that made the early games in the series classics in the first place--even improving on them. It's one of my favorite games ever.
I don't know about the latest Castlevania, but Dawn of Sorrow is awesome.
Megaman 9 was pretty hot.
Not necessarily a new installment in the series, but Bionic Commando: Rearmed was a killer update on the original. One of the finest 2D side scrollers I've played in a while.
Going a bit against the grain, I'll throw out Team Fortress 2. Team Fortress was one of the earliest popular mods for Quake, and its premise has been reused in mods on a lot of different games. But TF2 came out about ten years after its Half-Life-based predecessor and, even though the gameplay is still rooted in the classic formula, it's proven to have more personality than any FPS I've ever played. That, along with continued support by the developers for new content, has kept it fun and endearing for the community.
favorite would have to be Metal Gear Solid 4.
Super Mario Galaxy for me.
The latest Prince of Persia.
I'm gonna get lynched for this considering I complain about motion sense controllers but Wii Sports
