    Default Tactics Advance Help please!

I've looked online and asked at other forums, but to no avail. I'm trying to master this game and I'm currently sitting at 289 missions complete. The level I'm kinda stuck on is the "Why am I wet?" Level that requires a Red Mage. I have a level 34 and a level 31 red mage, but they only have the "walking" (50/50 chance) instead of the "jumping (90% chance) of passing the mission. I've tried a few times just taking the mission and passing it, but after 3-4 tries, I want to try and get the red mage up to jumping level so I don't have to keep killing 15 enemies over and over again.

Are there any tips of getting your characters up to those jumping levels for the later (lvl 7+) missions? Like do I have master jobs to get them stronger, or just level them up to higher levels? Please give me some tips!

FFTA actually has a fairly in depth unit-competence mechanic. The first factor is a formula that is derived from your unit's HP, MP, Atk, Def, Pow, Res, and Level (Speed does not count, for some reason, but boosts from equipment do).

Then there are bonuses, the first of which is for being in an unlockable job (you have to have a Red Mage for that quest, so the bonus is there automatically [Red Mage is unlocked by having a Fencer A-Ability]).

There is a recommended job bonus (which doesn't apply, since there is only a required job for that quest).

And then there is the Clan Skill bonus. Every quest which can be completed by Dispatch in the game has a recommended Clan Skill that goes along with it, in addition to the required skills. For "Why Am I Wet", the recommendation is 50 in Negotiation.

And, finally, you get an additional bonus for the weapon attack of your equipped weapon (first equipped weapon if you use Double Sword).

All of these compare against a set difficulty for each quest.

So, to boost your chances, you want a higher level unit, and you want them to have the best equipment they can use. Other than that, the only way to boost things is to have a higher Clan Skill. If you want the exact formula, I can go look them up for you, and you can calculate everything.

Wow, that's a lot of help actually! I'll have to try that out and see if it works. I believe I have the lvl 50 in negotiation, so there must be one other thing I need in order to push it over into the 'jumping' tier.

Is there a more in depth guide (free) on the internet I can find outside of gamefaqs? I'd love the link if anybody has it. Thanks again.

No, I'm afraid Gamefaqs has the best guide on the system I've seen.

The Mechanics Guide by TFergusson has a section on unit competence that has the exact equations, and the difficulty for each dispatch quest can be found in his Quest Guide.

I'm having quite the hard time of completing this mission, and EVERYTHING hinges on it . . . so I guess I'll be reading up on the mechanics and the other link later. Thank you very much. I hope it helps me to complete the game.

By the way, while we are on FF Tactics talk, in order to unlock the bonus stuff in FF TA2: Grimoire of the Rift, do I need to have the GBA game mastered? Or just have the game beat?

The bonus is only getting a Clan Privelege when you first start a new game. I really wish it was a bit more...

You get the Libra Privelege, so that you don't have to do the Clan Trial for it.

That kinda sucks. I wish it was more too. Oh well, guess I can pack up FFTA for the GBA for a while then and just work more on the DS game. Thanks for all the help.

Alright, I have played this game SO much I have probably logged 1000 hours between 4 different save files. If you are stuck at 289 missions, then you should check to see if you have done a mission called 'my mission.' It requires that you have a Eldena's Cup and Vermillion. Now, if you haven't done it yet, chances are you have progressed through the story line past it and now you can't get it again. One of my 2 saved files on my FFTA is stuck at 299, I went past that mission at some point when I didn't have the required items, and I can't get it again.

So if you are stuck at 289 and you don't have that mission, you might have to start over again.

My first time through the game, I got stuck at 291. My second time, I got all 300. I was playing a new save file, and accidentally erased my 300 mission one, and then I got stuck at 299. Now I have another one that is only like 100 missions in, but I have gotten most of my characters to level 50.

This discussion is actually over FFTA2, not FFTA.

Also, in the original FFTA, "My Mission" is a Reserve Mission, one of 4 total in the game. The other three Reserve Missions are the ones giving the Edalgusto, Vermillion, and Gold Vessel, and you will only get 1 of those three. "My Mission" requires the two items you do NOT get from your other Reserve Missions, and, thus, cannot be completed without trading or cheating.

However, Reserve Missions are not counted in the list of 300 and are not needed to access the final mission chain.

Incorrect. The one time I got to 299, I went around for hours looking for more missions, and that was the only mission I hadn't done yet. Because I had missed whatever mission gives the Eldagusto, I couldn't do it. When I restarted the game, I made sure I did all the side missions that pop up between each storyline mission, before advancing, and I got both the items required for that mission. Once I did that one, I advanced and got all 300, unlocking the final quest chain where you get cid.

I wasn't aware that there were 4 different reserve missions, but I have played that game a hell of a lot.

And the thread is talking about FFTA, not number 2. At least that is how his post reads.

There you go, the 300 quests from FFTA clan report, and that are kept track of in your Clan Status.

    Shining Lake (Gives Gold Vessel)
    Sauce Recipe (Gives Eldagusto)
    Hero of Yore (Gives Vermillion)
My Mission (Requires Gold Vessel and Eldagusto)
My Mission (Requires Gold Vessel and Vermillion)
My Mission (Requires Eldagusto and Vermillion)
Jade Dream (Unlocked after "My Mission" is completed)
Shining Lake (Slightly better rewards than original version)
Sauce Recipe (Slightly better rewards than original version)
Hero of Yore (Slightly better rewards than original version)

These are the 10 total Reserve Missions. There are 4 different possible combinations of these missions you can get:

    A. You can get the first Shining Lake, the third My Mission, and Jade Dream.
    B. You can get the first Sauce Recipe, the second My Mission, and Jade Dream.
    C. You can get the first Hero of Yore, the first My Mission, and Jade Dream.
    D. You can get the second Shining Lake, the second Sauce Recipe, and the second Hero of Yore.

That's it. If you get situation "A", "B", or "C", completing all the Reserve Missions is impossible without trading or cheating, however, you will not have to complete the reserve missions to complete all 300 to unlock the judge quest, as none of the Reserve Missions are counted toward that 300 mission total. If you don't believe me yet, compare the two lists above. There is no overlap. Nor are the Reserve Missions pre-requisites for any of the 300. The Reserve Missions are completely separate, just like the mission "Mortal Snow", where you get Ritz, which is also not on the Clan Report or counted among the 300.

Yeah, I was wrong about this being about FFTA2 (confused it with another thread), but do not challenge my knowledge of FFTA.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.
