Thread: Scary Movie Night

Horror movies are the best movies in my opinion. But its not usually because their scary. I'm a big fan of comedy horrors like Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead 2, Return of the Living Dead and Re-Animator.

The Shining is pretty creepy on a first viewing. Although Jack Nicolsons performance will likely just make you laugh. If you want my advice, watch Eraserhead if you really want something to disturb you.

I like The Shining because it actually has an engaging plot. And Jack Nicholson is great.

I have not seen Eraserhead, but I'll look it up.

Yeah I know, but I'll have 2 or 3 just in case.

I think The Descent would be a great movie for you guys to see. I can pretty much imagine it scaring the crap out of Jojo.

Oh my god yes. The Descent. That's probably the scariest movie I've ever seen.

    Signature by rubah. I think.

The Others is a good movie.

I like scary movies - generally I like thrillers more than slashers.

EDIT: Also, Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist (classic thriller, although today it's viewed somewhat as a comedy to some people I guess?).

Pssh. I watched the original Japanese Grudge, and it was so boring. I would actually rather watch the American one, and I thought that was pretty poor also.

I quite enjoy scary movies. Though, I have to be in a certain mood to want to watch them. Can't think of any good ones off the top of my head, that hasn't already been mentioned. I can only think of House on Haunted Hill, and that's because that scarred me as a child. xD

Right now, simply based on the recommendations here, I'm leaning towards The Descent for our first movie.

I think I've seen The Descent and I recall not liking it very much. However.

I can't remember the last time I saw a quality horror movie. I'm so disappointed in this genre lately that I don't even want to risk paying some gil for renting them. That's a shame cause I like horrors. What I like even more are atmospheric movies with eerie setting. The Village is the best example.

The Descent seems to have gotten a lot of recommendations here. The film was alright, but nothing special (the ending is was great though). I wonder why, out of all the horror movies out there, that The Descent is the one people seem to be picking. Odd.

The Thing is pretty much the definitive study of paranoia and horror. But then I would recommend it for any movie night, even a girl's rom-com.

The Shining is fairly spectacularly excellent and is a great second choice.

I've never seen The Descent because the trailers never grabbed me. That said it was written and directed by the same chap who made Dog Soldiers (Which is also epic and should go on the list, though it's very comedy-heavy) which is a big point in its favor.

The Shining (she's never seen it)
    Silent Hill
    Rec
    The Mist

Great list there but Silent Hill is a bit out of its depth.

    Halloween (original)
The Changeling (the one about a haunted house with George C. Scott)
The Others (because it's both scary and beautiful)
    Carrie.
    The Sixth Sense.
    The Fog (original)

    Some goodies there
I will never be a memory.
