I think the animators must have been Godzilla fans. Certainly the don't mess with Mother Nature theme is similar. Although to it's credit, Shin-Ra has a much better track record than JSDF ever did.

Random observation: you can get the sword Apocalyse from the Ancient Forest. Things sure are getting pretty apocalyptic by this point in the game.
