    Default My first designed bag.

I decided I needed a hobby outside of the realm of living creatures that die sad deaths, like fish, so I decided to buy a sewing machine and try designing things.

This is the first thing tote bag I've ever made! I really like the design and fabric I chose. The stitching is pretty abominable in some parts, though it's not obvious except in one or two spots, which I think I'm gonna restitch tomorrow.

I worked on this for 7 hours non-stop! A chunk of that was spent just measuring, because I'm a complete 'tard with measuring, and I didn't have a rotary cutter to make fast clean cuts.

So this is my result! Overall, I'm pretty happy. It could be a lot worse for a first shot, I guess.

Wow, those are really good! I like the purple one the best. What fabric did you use?

Just a question, why the choice of sewing?

It looks cute! The colors looks good together. Good job for a first attempt!

    Thank you guys!

@Shiny: I just used regular cotton fabric. When you layer it, it can be surprisingly thick. Most fabric stores just sell that.

@Lekana: Well, it kind of started out with my frustration of over make-up bags. The ones in the stores would either be adorable and too small and fragile, like the really pretty one Huxley's mom bought me for christmas, or they'd be big and really really ugly and plasticy. So I thought "Well, I could probably design my own really cute ones that are just right.

And then I asked Monda to show me some sewing projects for beginners and give me advice, so I ran out and get a sewing machine and fabric and started with one of the most simple thing you can make, pretty much, which is a tote bag!

That's really good, I like the patterns together I was thinking I want to learn to sew cos I want to make little animals and things one day, but I've never even used a sewing machine before and I'm scaared ;_; Maybe I could start with a tote bag too if I ever do though!

A sewing machine can be really tricky at first, but once you get it, you get it. The tote bag is definitely the best thing you can start with =O

I'd love to be at all creative and do things like this, but i cant even thread a sewing machine and pretty much failed textiles at school.

It's really good! Are you going to keep making more?

Thanks a bunch! And I will try some more. I'm gonna keep doing tote bags for now until I'm really good, and then I'll move onto other stuff.

I eventually want to design a nice big black leather bag. I already have the idea in my head, but I dunno how good it'd look, even after more experience. xD

I like the stripey fabric that's on the inside of the bag, actually. Not so sure about the one you chose for the outside.

But, all in all nice work. Don't know about the US, but sewing is a mandatory class in elementary school in Denmark. We have like two sewing classes every week for two years I think, in the fourth and fifth grade.
So, at one point I did know how to sew properly, but now not so much.

    Anyway, keep 'em coming, Rye.

I had to take a home ec class in 7th grade, where I learned sewing, but it was so long ago that I forgot how to sew with a machine until recently.

I actually prefer the inside fabric myself, but I cut it poorly since I didn't have a pair of rotary cutters, so I put it inside to hide the shame. xD
