Adding Final Fantasy IV, not to fuel the fire... but because I agree with them.
It is however satisfying with the more recent additions (namely the DLC sequel and the DS' Augment system).
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Ugly plasticine characters, audaciously copy-pasted level design, and items that can only be used by navigating a windowed menu while enemies continue to swarm you. At least some of the music was all right.
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
The foremost and universal criticism against Lament was that there were only a handful of unique room types for each area, which were then pasted end-on-end ad infinitum. Acknowledging this, Igarashi followed up with Curse of Darkness, which...has the exact same problem, except every area is about ten times larger than in Lament. What?!
It also replaced Lament's rare, minimal platforming with no platforming at all--indeed, no environmental interaction of any kind outside of stock "call out your familiar to open a door or cross a gap here" spots. Interestingly, though, the music was even better than in Lament.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Dawn of Sorrow on the DS was merely mediocre; at first glance, everyone thought it would be another Symphony of the Night, which it at least superficially resembled. But once you got into the game, it was all boxy corridors, haphazard enemy placement, amateurish sprite work, and generally bland surroundings with zero atmosphere.
So, that was bad, but not enough to inspire hate: that's where Portrait comes in. Everything is worlds worse, with the flagrant copy-pasting of rooms finally catching up to the 3D games; even uglier, more poorly-animated sprites; and environments that are Spartan at best, and at worst, actually look unfinished. I can't even say the music is good; while some tracks sound fine out of context, in the game, they form a droning continuum of like-sounding guitar synth that could easily be used to induce headaches.
But Order of Ecclesia was just mediocre, again, so maybe there's hope for the series yet!!
I made myself finish FFX-2 because goddamn it I wasn't going to let myself be beaten by an interactive softcore porno. When it came to XII though, , I couldn't stay awake long enough to get more than three quarters of the way through.
there was a picture here
That's how I felt about FFX. I bought it when it first came out and didn't finish it until 3-4 years later because whenever I turned it on, I mysteriously got exhausted and fell asleep. I didn't mind FFXII that much but I still haven't beaten it. I enjoyed the game, but it was too easy. When it came to XII though, :bou::bou::bou::bou:, I couldn't stay awake long enough to get more than three quarters of the way through.
FF12. I pumped 90+ hours into that piece of garbage waiting for a payoff that never bloody happened.
There is no signature here. Move along.
Dirge of Cerberus was pretty crap, but I still finished it. After I got about half-way I just said screw it and rushed through the levels, not even bothering to shoot at Deep Ground soldiers.
Sudeki had an alright story-line, but it just really sucked. But it only took four hours to finish so it wasn't much of a waste of time.
There's probably a few others, but I can't think of them / have purged them from memory.
ffxii....worst game ive ever played. Hated every single bit about it.
Ive played up until tyhe final boss but i cant bring myself to beat it, i dont know why.
Metal Gear Solid 4. BOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!! Loved part 3. Kept thinking they'd tap into the fun of part 3 eventually. All they did was make the cut scenes longer and longer and longer and *snore*
I will never be a memory.
Am I the only one who thought XII's story wasn't that great? I thought it was way too medieval-type formulaic for me to care too much for. Oh, and Vaan and Penelo SUCKED, and they were the 'main characters.' The combat was very good, though.
