Thread: PC game for my mum?

  1. #1

Default PC game for my mum?

Hey, so my mum has started to become better with the computer and she likes to play FarmVille on Facebook. I haven't played it, but it looked like a sim game.

So, was wondering if there was a PC game of similar nature I could introduce her to, and for it not to have a steep learning curve. Would The Sims 3 be a good choice?

The Sims 3 would be great.

Or maybe something a bit casual. =D

The Sims 2 would probably be less overwhelming. Plus there's a ton of custom content if she ever gets comfortable enough with the computer to get some.

If she likes farmville wouldnt the next logical step be something like harvest moon or something? (dont know if there is such a thing on pc)
The sims 2 is also a great suggestion, or if were looking at casual games anything by pop cap is a winner such as Plants v Zombies

YouTube - Plants vs Zombies Music Video

    Very addictive, simplistic gameplay.

I'm making the logical assumption that Omecle's mother and mine are almost identical (because everyone who plays FarmVille on Facebook is the same amirite?) so I don't think something with zombies is a good next step.

The Sims sounds good; I haven't played 3 so I don't know how it compares to 2, but whichever should work.

I think maybe you should try a Hidden Object kind of game over at bigfishgames.com. Most people love them and they're incredibly easy to get into, and you don't have to sit down for an hour to play this game unlike many other more demanding games. If my mother wasn't so terrible at English I would've introduced her to the genre a long time ago.

Hmm, thanks for all the suggestions. I was more looking into tycoon and sim games though.

Harvest Moon looked interesting, but there is no PC version. Plants vs. Zombies is a consideration, I know I got addicted to it for awhile. I absolutely love the Myst games, but adventure games aren't for my mum. Sim City is probably not the most exciting of games either. Dwarf Fortress looks like an interesting game, however again I just don't think it'd be something that'd interest my mum. BigFishGames.com seems to have some interesting games, I will also check that out!

So, I guess if we break it down; a game that someone can keep continously building upon something, gather long-term rewards, share/help their friends, isn't insanely complex. From what I can gather, The Sims 3 seems like the best bet at this stage, but I only ever played a bit of the original, so I am not sure how it has changed.

Oh, also something that isn't a decade old would be nice. They were great back then, but it's time to move on now. Also note that I chose to ignore the dumb suggestions.
