    Taking Woodstock

    5/10

Slow moving like pretty much all of Ang Lee's movies. It had some funny parts, but I would've loved to see some of the actual concert. The large ensemble cast was great. I especially liked Liev Schreiber's character.

Finally saw The Princess and the Frog.

It looked pretty, and it was cute... but I expected more from it. I was kind of disappointed. 7/10.

Ok, so I've been hearing people talk about this movie forever so I finally gave it a watch last night. Wtf? Seriously soooo boring. I fell asleep at one point. Bad acting too.

Your entitled to say whether you like the film or not, but saying that this film has bad acting is just simply false. The acting was terrific, especially Morgan Freeman.

Oh, forget that post. Miriel and I were playing truth or dare (except without truth) and I dared her to give that movie a 1/10. I suppose we both forgot to mention that afterwards in this thread

Avatar: The Last Airbender. I've never followed the animation, but I was intrigued by the premise. So I can't judge how faithful it was to the original.

First of all the visuals are gorgeous. Like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it makes effective use of location shooting to make a unique looking world. The cities and architecture have a stylized but nice look.

The characters are by and large interesting. Aang was an interesting mix as a powerful warrior who is emotionally vunerable. I thought Katara and Sokka were plausible siblings. Zuko has some interesting character shifts, although my favorite is (SPOILER)when he infiltrates a Fire Nation fortress to kidnap Aang. I love Iroh: he's the coolest honorable villain since Rubicant.

My main problem was the plot seemed rushed, like the makers tried to cram three hours of plot into two. A lot of scenes have abrupt endings. The worst moment was when Katara's narration mentions that Sokka and Princess Yue became great friends, as they're being introduced to each other. Show don't tell, people!

So, it was a good movie, but I'm hoping there's a director's cut that lengthens the character interactions.

I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender yesterday. Having watched all of the anime episodes, i loooooved it. I hate how people nitpicked tiny "character flaws" that were actual mannerisms of the anime characters. I thought it was fantastic and i cant wait for the next two.

I can't compare the two, but I want to watch the cartoon now.

It took a while for me to figure out what the Fire Nation reminded me of and it eventually hit me: Iron Town in Princess Mononoke. It uses iron forged technology in a battle against forest spirits with a similar disdain for nature.

Haha, right after Danielle posts about it.

Wild Target - 4/5. Some properly funny moments, certainly enough to keep the audience laughing at the right times. I liked the characters well enough. Wouldn't have minded if it went on about 30 minutes longer, but it was still worth the ticket price.

    Reverse order...

Transformers (2007): Someone needs to tell these people that long does not mean good. Especially when a full smurfing hour and forty-five minutes are dedicated to bull being done by stupid human characters in a film that is supposed to be about giant robots fighting. It wouldn't have been so bad if any of the human characters were engaging or anything other than a total parody of the types of people they were attempting to portray. Most of the humor was awkwardly placed (thought the scene of the autobots hiding from Sam's parents was well done) and broke tension during scenes that should have been really heavy to watch. It wasn't awful, but it cockteased for way too long before anything happened for it to be considered a great summer blockbuster.

Star Trek (2009): On the other hand, this was a summer blockbuster remake done totally right. Great characters, great story, great humor, great pacing. I'm not a fan of TOS in the slightest but the movie had me hooked from start to finish. I don't know what the running time was, but it felt like it was over in a flash because of how much it sucked me into the universe - where with Transformers, I was constantly checking the clock, marveling at how long I'd been watching it without a goddamn thing happening. Superbly done, and I'm excited to see what the next one is like. It's just strange to me how both Transformers and Star Trek were actually written by the same team, considering how much better this one deals with the source material.

In between the two, I saw The Last Airbender, which doesn't even warrant a review. I'm hoping the whole experience will be purged from my mind soon enough. As my friend's wife said to me in the theater, it was an abortion.

Might be a case of the producers of one movie being completely stupid about how they want the source material handled while the producers for the other were much smarter about it.

    Vampires Suck

    10/10

Oscar worthy! Okay, in all seriousness, the writers of Epic Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, Scary Movie, and whatever other crappy movies with "movie" in the title need to stop. Parodies can be great. I love a good parody and they did well with the costumes and sets. However, the casting was way off at times. The girl they got to play Bella was great because she did the stutters, blinking, and half open mouth thing perfectly. She sounded just like Kristen Stewart! "EDUWARRD" But, most of the jokes were extremely lame and Ken Jeong couldn't save this trainwreck. Although I will give it a higher rating than I'd give the others for the sheer fact that someone is finally making fun of all of these franchises: Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and Gossip Girls in one shot. They even took a short jab at Alice in Wonderland (the crap Tim Burton one).

    Real rating: 5/10
