, now that bow scene makes sense. I was wondering wtf the point of that whole thing was. I wasn't even thinking of it as an allusion to another character.

Dracula 2000: Decent modernized take on Dracula. Interesting enough of a twist.

Thor: I thought it was pretty crappy as an individual superhero movie, but imagining it as being a lead-in to the Avengers just to show an origin story, it was okay. I felt like it lacked personality compared to some other superior superhero flicks; same thing happened to The Incredible Hulk, really. I'm still stoked for Avengers, though.

I just re-watched Mad Max and I was.......not as impressed. Nostalgia maybe.

6/10. That sort of not impressed. The movie didn't do very much to explain the breakdown of law and order. You're simply thrown into a car chase and you're supposed to glean from the dialogue that things are really starting to break down. I get the idea that society is on the verge of imploding, and they do a clear job of explaining that things have gone to complete crap in the next two films. I just wanted a more clear breakdown of the story in the first film. Even if they had to do a scrolling marquee style story start a la Star Wars.

The point is that it comes across as less of a break down of society in general, and more of a story about some biker gang fighting for territory against the local highway patrol. I didn't get the idea that this was supposed to be happening everywhere, or that it was leading to something bigger. Mainly, leading to the apocalypse and everything else in the next two films.

Maybe it's silly to want a little more story from an action flick, but I think the other two films pulled it off. So why not this one?

I honestly don't think they anticipated how famous Mad Max would end up being, and in turn, they probably did not expect the movie to be taken so seriously by movie-watchers. Only when it went big did they realise that they should probably put a backstory to it.
For 20 years, the movie held a record in Guinness Book of Records as the highest profit-to-cost ratio of a motion picture, conceding the record only in 1999 to The Blair Witch Project.

True. I just figure back story is one of the cheaper things to put in a movie. It's just a scene with some dialogue. I still liked the movie, but nostalgia definitely made me think it was better than it actually is to me.

    The Green Hornet

    Rating: 5/10

Well, it was loud and funny. It wasn't by any means a great movie, but I thought it was genuinely stupid, but funny. Call me crazy, but I actually grinned throughout the entire movie.

    "He's my man..."

    "...I AM NOT YOUR MAN."

    "He's NOT my man man, he's my...man."

attempt to justify his need to tape teenagers taking showers and having cute hair.
That is pretty much him in a nut shell it seems. xD

    Love and Other Drugs

SPOILER ALERT - Some spoilers ahead...although not really because this movie and most movies in this genre are predictable.

This movie reminds why 99% of Rom Coms are garbage. The only not garbage ones are Some Like it Hot, There's Something About Mary, and 500 Days of Summer. If anyone tells you differently, they're lying. So, the movie starts off with Jake However-You-Spell-His-Last-Name being a playa playa in an attempt to not seem like a closet dork that he is.

He becomes a salesmen for Zoloft when it's first invented because this movie is supposed to take place in the 90s. You can tell because everyone is wearing well-fitted jeans and tucked in shirts. He tries to bribe a doctor into prescribing Zoloft instead of Prozac much to Tom Cruise's dismay. It is in this doctor's office that he meets the new Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway who bears a striking resemblance to Casper, the Friendliest Ghost. He sees her boob and falls in lust.

She then beats him with a purse or something. He wants to date her. She says yes despite his deceit because she's horny. They start having sex ALOT to make up for the fact that the plot sucks. They then make it more dramatic by focusing more on her Parkinson's Disease. Then they have more sex. He decides that he loves her (boobs) and wants to be with her (them) forever. Then he meets an old guy at a Parkinson's Disease convention that tells him that his wife has stage four Parkinson's and it's horrible cleaning up her fecal matter and he can't even get it up anymore.

Jake's character, who is now selling Viagra is very disappointed to hear this so he tries to find a cure for her. She's all, "THERE IS NO CURRRRRRRE!" /tear and then she's like, "We should break up." They do. He chases her in a car while she's in a bus because apparently she never heard of rom com endings taking place in airports for dramatic effect. They get back together and continue to have a lot of sex. He learns that you can really love one person and she learns that you can find love even though in ten years top, you won't even be able to contain your bowel movements.

I could go on, but this movie is so that it isn't even worth it.

    2/10

EDIT: Oh and I forgot the brother. The brother of Jake's character gets kicked out his girlfriend's place probably because he's a bad impersonation of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen which is saying a lot considering THEY are bad impersonations of a true comic legend, Chris Farley. He is essentially a plot device -- used to add humor to dramatic situations. Some where along the line, they forget the humor. There is a part where the brother is watching his brother and Maggie (Anne's character) have sex and he's masturbating to it. It's just like wut. Again, I cannot stress enough how no one should see this film.

    POTC at stranger tides

    10/10
(SPOILER) This is probably the best POTC yet, it feels more open than the last two, but is more epic than the first. It has everything, zombies, romance with mermaids, a great ending, it sets up jack and barbossa to become enemies again. The only thing missing is the two dumb pirates from the first 3 (you know the one eyed guy and the other one) This movie is just awesome. It deals with betrayals, servitude, prejudice, peace, and a preacher. this time its not pirates vs pirates or pirates vs navy, this time its pirates vs Spanish vs Mermaids vs English and/or Barbossa vs faith vs Jack Sparrow. There are no words to describe the greatness of this movie, so I am going to create one. this movie is .... Awemazpic. It surrounds Jack stuck between his love, a man who can kill him at any time, and the english. he has to lead Blackbeard to the fountain of youth or he will kill both Jack and his true love. The girl wont leave though because blackbeard is her father. Meanwhile A prophesy that Blackbeard will be killed by a one legged man, (which Barbossa now is) arises, and Barbossa gets swing happy with a poisoned blade. Other events include a ship that is alive and farts out fire, an exploding lighthouse, an entire frigate eaten by mermaids, and a preacher who tries to save blackbeards soul.

    PotC On Stranger Tides

It was pretty neat. Gave me what I wanted from a PotC film. The lack of Orlando Bloom as eye candy was made up for by that super hot mer-babe.

I love how there's always after the credits stuff too. There was only me, Em and two other people left in the cinema when that came up. They love leaving it open for another film

They see me rolling. They hating, patrolling.
Trying to catch me riding dirty.

    The Shining - 4/5
I really enjoyed this movie, despite generally not being able to stand horror movies. I don't really know what it was about the whole thing, but my favourite scene is the discussion between the husband and wife at the point where the wife has just checked out what he'd been typing up on his typewriter. I just thought "Why can't more horror movies be this good?" Perhaps it's because it just doesn't feel like a horror movie. The scenes are never overdone, the actors are actually good, there are more conversations than boring slashfests... I don't know, it felt more like a thriller, I suppose. But it was always described to me as a horror, and I can see why that would be, but it never felt like a horror to me. I liked it, anyway. Jack is such a wonderful, wonderful actor.

    Grin

I watched Priest! Based upon some Korean comic (loosely) in that it doesn't have to do with much of it, the movie has a few stylish fight scenes but ultimately may not impress you in its momentum - it seems to lurch forward awkwardly until you realize what the final plot is, and then it barrels down that route. I need to watch it again to see if the timing made it appear as if the director realized he was running out of time.

That said, I like mindless action flicks so I will give it 3/5 stars

Drag Me to Hell - Rating: 7/10

I'm a big horror/slasher buff, and I have mixed feelings about Drag Me to Hell. Well, it wasn't scary, obviously, and it had some truly awkward, so-called "funny moments". I wasn't quite sure if they had intended them to be amusing, but they just felt awkward and slightly out of place. That being said, it was a great-looking movie, but not exactly what I would call a horror movie. Still a good movie, though.

    Raising Victor Vargas

    7/10

Even though it's from 2002, it's not outdated. How youth relationships are portrayed in this film is very authentic. I love the gritty, inner city rawness of the film and the actors. I had to question whether these were kids they found on the street or actual actors because it seemed that real, but eventually you get a feel for the actual story which centers around the title character, his strict Nana, and the girl he has a crush on. The only thing I didn't like about the film was the fact that the lead dude looked like a young Obama. It was really disturbing seeing him flex his muscles and do various other things because of that.
