    Hercules (Hi, Neo)

It was... short. This movie could really benefit from being a hour longer so they could do everything they wanted to do. You don't spend a lot of time with the characters and they're hardly fleshed out as a result. I was meh on how they handled the myth too at first, but it grew on me. As far as action movies go I felt it was pretty standard: a bunch of awesome, badass characters kicking ass, taking names, and a couple of laugh out loud moments.

It was incredible, the actor has great presence on screen and the martial arts in the film is one of the best I have seen in many martial arts movies. The story is also very impressive covering many details about Chinese and Japanese history. Its semi-biographical story about the man Yip (who was one of Bruce Lee's teachers) and his wife during Japans invasion of China during WWII.

    Highly Recommended 8.5/10

5/10, was okay. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Felt like DDL was a bit of an overactor, but it could have just been how his character was written. Disappointed that it was probably the most predictable movie I’ve seen in a long time; saw each turn of events coming a mile away. And also, it could have been shortened by a good hour/hour and a half.

I really like the idea of having enemies honor and borderline-worship one another basically to the point of haunting themselves with the other’s death. Would have been better if Liam Neeson was in it for longer, tbf.

    Delivery Man

Last night, Bubba and I settled down to watch this DVD. I really, really enjoyed it!

Vince Vaughn was the perfect casting for the loveable David Wozniak. He made the character totally believable with his charming ways.

This is the story of a man who donated sperm many years before. Due to the high quality of his sperm, the clinic gave the samples to every woman who entered the clinic. David was visited from a man from the clinic who told him this and explained he had 533 children! The problem was- over 100 of them were now contesting his contract with the clinic and wanted to know his idenity. David them embarks on a journey with his useless lawyer best friend to hide his identity. In the mean time, David decides to follow some of his children and act as their guardian angel- acting as a stranger, not their father.

This film was a perfect mix of comedy and heart-warming moments.

I agree it was thoroughly enjoyable. There were some lovely bits in it. Vince Vaughn is actually a better actor than I gave him credit for. 8/10.

I'd say Delivery Man was a solid 6 for me. Didn't try too hard and I always like Vince Vaughan even if he's always playing himself.

Just saw half of Divergent. It was terrible. Maybe I shouldn't review if I didn't watch the whole thing but.. Avoid unless you're 12-20 and female.

    The Purge

Apparently quite a popular Ethan Hawke movie (it made something silly like $90 million at the box office with a $3 million budget), I didn't think much of it personally.

Basically in an attempt to 'purge' America of the homeless and generally lower class (and an outlet to blow off some steam) the government allows one night a year of anything goes debauchery, which in turn keeps the rates of crime and unemployment very low for the rest of the year.

I think what annoyed me about the film is that aside from a brief explanation of the point of the purge through text at the beginning almost the entire focus is on one family, which is a shame as the idea itself is something I really wanted the plot to explain and explore in more detail. I'm aware of a sequel that probably does that, but I didn't enjoy the first movie enough to care anymore.

    High Fidelity

A friend recommended I watch this because I am "terrifyingly similar" to Rob Gordon, the film's main character. Much of the movie was uncomfortable because, well, he was right, and Rob just so happens to be a bit of an asshole. That said, the characters are well-written and believable, including Gordon.

John Cusack was on fire at this point in his career. He is a master of making scripted easygoing, everyday "conversation" seem as natural on the screen as it would in the street.

Iben Hjejle's delivery, on other hand, is unfortunately a little flat. I also could have done without the clichéd ending, but maybe that's just because I'm Rob Gordon at a more immature stage in his life. These things aside, this was an excellent film.

    9/10

    Star Trek: Into Darkness

Enjoyed it, but it's nowhere near as good as Star Trek 2009. If/when they make the third one, I'll see it, though.

    Brick Mansions.

Plenty of mindless action. Not nearly enough parkour compared to the source material, but I guess the viewing public in 2014 is probably a little less obsessed with parkour than in 2004. In any case, the action setpieces are all well done.

And this film has the distinction of being Paul Walker's last, and in a sense, it really is a typical Paul Walker film. Two dimensional, cliched plot, but plenty of great action thriller elements to keep the brain from focusing in on the flaws.

    Shark Night 3D

I was gonna say in honour of Shark Week I settled down to watch this. This is purely coincidence though as I have no recollection of putting this onto my Lovefilm list. I can only think I got drunk and self-destructive and decided to punish my sober self with this God-awful s***e.

Clearly this garbage was meant to be enjoyed in 3D so straight away I was at a disadvantage with my 2D TV. If you can imagine selected scenes from all the Jaws films, shot very poorly and spliced together you may have an idea what this was like. The cast was a predictable blend of high school kids covering the various ethnic bases and not one with any notable acting talents. The dog was probably the stand out actor and it played the part of a dog really well. The sharks looked like giant pieces of pasta. Also, outside of ridiculous films like Sharknado and Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus... sharks DO NOT ambush jet ski riders by jumping out of the water and biting their heads off as they ride by. The film makers might want to watch shark week a bit more closely this year.

I'll give it 1/10 as the labrador in the film was great. It was even trained to grab the female lead's hand whilst she was struggling in the water and I thought that was cute as hell.

Had you never seen Scott Pilgrim before? I still have my Roxy set floating round somewhere.
