Default Which Final Fantasy had the Best OST?

I know that this thread existed a looong time ago, but I'd like to bring back my own, just to see everyone's take on the best OST now. Examples of favorite tracks would also help

Mine would be, without a doubt, Final Fantasy VI's OST. "Terra" the theme that started off the game absolutely blew me away, and I can't think of a track that I didn't like in that game. Second would be Final Fantasy IX's magical score.

FF VI was amazing, the fully orchestrated Version of Dancing Mad being a truly amazing piece.

However, as awesome as Dancing Mad is, I'm going to say FF IX. Dancing Mad, on it's own, is probably my favorite FF song, though the shear number of amazing FF IX tracks makes it better overall. Rose of May and Melodies of Life being my favorite two, Kuja's Theme (I recall it being Dark Messenger, though I might be wrong) and the Burmucian theme are other Prime Examples.

I have all the OST's, and have listened to them many many times. imho, VIII has the greatest soundtrack, but VII has the greatest 2 tunes (One winged angel and main theme)

    VIII has some true classics:

    The Landing
    Premonition
    Force Your Way
    The Extreme
    Blue Fields
    Dance with the Balamb-Fish
    Waltz for the Moon
    FITHOS LUSEC WECOS VINOSEC
    Find Your Way
    The Stage is Set
    Liberi Fatali
    Balamb Garden

    among them.

They are all good. My order is:

VIII, VII, IX, X, VI, XI, IV, V (no preference to IV and V), XII

I am sure I read somewhere that it is Uematsu's favourite also. I also really like X's

    =========

My top 25 (in order of absolute best to 25th):

VII 920. Final Fantasy VII Main Theme (6:29)
    VII 921. One-Winged Angel (7:19)
    VII 922. 19 Aerith's Theme (4:18)
XI 923. "FFXI Opening Theme" ~ Legend-The Crystal Theme, Memory of the People, Memoro de la S^tono, Memory of the Wind ~ (6:46)
    VIII 924. Liberi Fatali (3:08)
    VIII 925. The Landing (4:36)
    X 926. Calm Before the Storm (3:10)
    VI 927. Tina's (Terra's) Theme (3:52)
    VII 928. Anxious Heart (4:02)
VII 929. Chasing the Black Caped Man (3:04)
    VIII 930. Premonition (4:36)
VIII 931. Force Your Way (3:53)
    VII 932. Shinra's Full-Scale Attack (2:57)
    VII 933. JENOVA (2:32)
    VIII 934. The Extreme (6:47)
VII 935. Those Who Fight (2:47)
IX 936. Crossing Those Hills (2:38)
    VIII 937. Blue Fields (2:54)
VII 938. Holding My Thoughts in My He.. (2:14)
IX 939. Sleepless City Treno (2:53)
IX 940. Melodies Of Life (English) (5:51)
    VII 941. The Prelude (2:52)
    VII 942. Reunion (3:34)
    IX 943. Cid's Theme (4:00)
    IX 944. Freya's Theme (3:02)

Let's move this to the FF Music forum...

VI is my absolute favorite soundtrack with V and VII being in second place for me. VI was so awesome, Uematsu even said he could retire from music after he created it.

    Terra
    Awakening
    Aria Di Mezzo Carattere
    Overture
    Cyan
    Kefka
    Devil's Lab
    Opening theme
    Dancing Mad
    Decisive Battle
    Dark World
    Coin Song
    Epitaph
    Setzer
    Relm
    Shadow

Seriously there are too many to list and VI I feel set the standard for awesome Character themes which I've yet to see an FF even match let alone beat.

Actually I am undecided with IX and X.... I am listening to X now and I really like some of these....hard to judge it. IX probably pinches it *just* for me.

    X had some greats though:

    Yuna's Decision
    Other World
    Someday the Dream Will End
    Suteki Da Ne
    Challenge
    Calm Before The Storm
    Seymour's Ambition
    Wandering Flame
    Besaid Island
    Blitz Off
    The Sight Of Spira

and even Scorching Desert....just so well done. Feels like a Desert just listening to it and a personal fave of mine: People of the Far North

FFVI's soundtrack is the main factor that makes me hesitate to call FFIX my favorite game in the series—which is still rough, because FFIX's soundtrack is great, too. But FFVI's consistent use of leitmotifs and tracks perfectly embodying a wide range of sentiments, from rousing heroism to internal doubt to otherworldly wonder, makes it just about unparalleled.

It's a close call between FFVIII and FFIX for me, but I think I like the OST of FFIX best. It's consistently fantastic and has some wonderful high points, like The Place I'll Return To Someday and You Are Not Alone. I love the 'medieval' feel of some of the songs too.

"You are not alone" really was the icing on the cake when we saw Zidane go all bad-ass (with good reason).

And my bad in missing the Video Game Music forum :P

Really tough. For me it's VII, the major themes are amazing to me, and it's my favorite main battle music, which is always important to me in a FF. That remix compilation by a bunch of DJ's a year or two ago really imprinted just how powerful certain tracks are.

I feel like FFVIII might be the best for its range, but including conventional type tracks in that range. I love the main battle theme, but the Laguna battle theme might be one of my favorite songs he's ever done. The music meshes so amazing with the visuals, the team overall just went really far with the stuff they were trying to show you, and it shows.

FFIX of course is a contender. I think that game might have the most tracks in a Final Fantasy? The remixes of classic songs as well was amazing. It did amazing songs that evoked memories to the entire franchise, old and new.

Overall, it's just the few in FFVII that really standout that make it superior to other games, as I feel the other tracks as well hold their own song for song to the other games.
