Thunderstorm isn't that bad. The saving grace of it is it that it doesn't give any enemies any better weapons, which is really the biggest problem with higher ranked enemies. I'm also pretty sure it doesn't upgrade any enemies to hero level, so no extra hammer brutes with invincibility and :bou::bou::bou::bou: like that. Of the skulls I've mentioned, famine really is the most difficult to deal with of the bunch. You'll find yourself using a hell of a lot of weapons you never otherwise expected to.
