I've got a few favorites. I like "Rhythm Nation 1814", which has a theme of basically "prejudice and ignorance boo knowledge and reasoning yay! " FonzFonz recently recommended Sufjan Stevens to me and I liked his album "Illinois".

Do you have any favorites or suggestions for other listeners? What are their themes?

Oh, concept albums? I wondered what this thread title meant for a second XD

There have been a few that I really like, including The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists from this year. One of my favourites of 2009.

    Other good ones:

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips
A Grand Don't Come For Free - The Streets (complete with two possible endings!)
69 Love Songs - The Magnetic Fields (admittedly this is more a common theme rather than a 'story')
"Excuse me Miss, do you like pineapple?"

If you like prog rock, high-pitched vocals, catchy riffs and an initially strange but ultimately endearing and deep story, check out Coheed and Cambria. All of their albums tie together to tell a really unique sci-fi story... sort of. I mean, it's hard to pick out the story parts unless you're intentionally listening for them. Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness is probably their strongest album, imo, which really throws you into the middle of the story at a big turning point, but like I said most likely you'll have no idea what they're talking about at first.

The Wall by Pink Floyd was my first rock opera and still stands as one of my favorites. If you haven't listened to it yet, treat yourself and listen through with lyrics in hand. It's wonderful.
