If the makers of this game had kept the Shumi Village side quest in, right up until the "hands" thing, but not kept Squall's optional explination of its meaning, then the meaning would still be there, but it like many things would be hidden, but noticable to gamers who notice, and come up with ideas, "Oh maybe the Shumi's wanted to get them to look around their village, and then make them welcome." They would have a lot of skeptism.
