I must admit I always liked to try and use different fonts. Thankfully most of my teachers weren't sticklers for TNR. As long as it was readable and didn't use significantly more space than TNR you were alright(no cheating page length by using a super size 12 font).
A favorite of mine to use online is Palatino Linotype or any font similar to it. Or at least it seems to have codes for it on several of the forums I visit(stupid forums that limit font choices, it isn't like reading Palatino will kill ya!... then again it does keep someone from posting in Comic Sans).
Calibri is also nice, though truthfully I didn't recall seeing it much before. Must have overlooked it in my massive font list.
