She was a surprisingly nice change from the characters I'm used to in these types of period novels. But there were pages and pages that I just skipped over cause the author was blathering on. I hate when authors talk directly to the reader in that way.
Agreed, this book could be shortened by about a 100 pages if he just cut the crap
